The Ombu of Plaza San Martín

Yesterday, after drawing in Borges, I got the idea I wanted to meet the mature Ombu-tree of San Martín in Retiro. This huge and old, tranquil and powerful tree covers at least 300 feet diameter branch shadow.

Sitting beneath it I thought: "This is where Buenos Aires began, this is the first tree the immigrants saw desembarcing the Transatlantic carriers who brought them from Europe. Argentinians decend from here, from the ships who left them at the pier."
